Law office and home of Thomas Burgess. In 1810 Burgess purchased a young slave boy, Miles Howard, as a personal servant. Growing fond of the lad, he set Miles free at the age of 18, and the two remained lifelong friends. Miles is buried in the black cemetery outside of town.
